Samsung J7 MAX G615F Touch Not Working After Update – Fix File Download

Firmware Overview

One of the most frustrating issues I've seen repeatedly in my repair shop Samsung Galaxy J7 MAX (SM-G615F) loses touch screen functionality after a software update. The display works perfectly, you can see everything on screen, but touch doesn't respond at all. No amount of rebooting, factory reset, or safe mode helps. Sound familiar?

This happens because Samsung's OTA updates sometimes contain touch firmware that's incompatible with certain hardware revisions or aftermarket display assemblies. The phone downloads an update, installs it, restarts and suddenly you're locked out of your own device because the screen won't register any touches.

The good news? This is a 100% software-fixable problem in most cases. The fix file provided here contains the correct touch panel firmware and compatible software build that restores full touchscreen functionality. I've personally used this on dozens of J7 MAX units that came in with this exact complaint, and the success rate is excellent when the display hardware itself isn't damaged.

This solution works whether the touch stopped after OTA update, after flashing wrong firmware, or after replacing the LCD with a compatible aftermarket part. If your G615F display lights up but doesn't respond to touch after a software change, this is your answer.

Problems This Firmware Fixes

This touch fix package resolves the following issues on Samsung J7 MAX G615F:

🔧 Touch Not Working After Update

The primary issue this file addresses screen displays normally but doesn't respond to touch after OTA update. This happens when the update includes touch firmware incompatible with your specific panel hardware revision.

🔧 Touch Dead After LCD Replacement

Replaced the screen with an aftermarket display and touch stopped working? Some replacement LCDs need specific firmware versions to function properly. This build has broader panel compatibility.

🔧 Partial Touch / Ghost Touch

Touch works in some areas but not others, or the screen registers phantom touches on its own. Often software-related when hardware isn't physically damaged. Worth trying this firmware before replacing parts.

🔧 Touch Lag / Delayed Response

Severe touch input delay making the phone unusable. If this started after an update (not gradually over time), firmware mismatch is likely the cause.

🔧 Stuck After Wrong Firmware Flash

Accidentally flashed G610F or other J7 variant firmware on your G615F? This creates major issues including touch failure. The correct G615F firmware restores proper functionality.

🔧 Bootloop / Software Corruption

While primarily a touch fix file, this is a full firmware that also resolves bootloop issues, stuck on logo, and general software corruption problems on J7 MAX.

📋 Before You Flash: Is It Hardware or Software?

To confirm your touch issue is software-related:

  • Does the display show image clearly? (If not, it's likely an LCD/flex cable issue)
  • Did the problem start immediately after an update? (Strong indicator of software issue)
  • Does touch work in Samsung recovery mode? (Boot with Volume Up + Home + Power, try to navigate)
  • Is there physical damage, cracks, or water exposure? (Hardware issue this file won't help)

If the screen looks fine and the issue started after software changes, proceed with flashing.

How to Flash Samsung J7 MAX G615F Touch Fix Firmware (Odin)

Follow these steps carefully. We'll use Samsung's official Odin tool to flash the 4-file firmware package.

Prerequisites

  • Windows PC (Windows 7/8/10/11)
  • Original Samsung USB cable (data cable, not charge-only)
  • Samsung USB Drivers installed
  • Odin3 v3.13.1 or v3.14.4 (recommended versions)
  • At least 50% battery charge
  • Backup important data (if accessible via USB or Samsung Cloud)

Flashing Instructions

Step 1

Download and Extract Firmware

Download the Samsung J7 MAX G615F touch fix firmware from the link below. Extract the ZIP file you should see 4 files: AP (largest), BL, CP, and CSC (or HOME_CSC). Also download Odin3 if you don't have it. For a detailed Odin tutorial, check our Samsung firmware flashing guide.

Step 2

Install Samsung USB Drivers

Download and install Samsung USB drivers from Samsung's official site or use the Samsung Smart Switch installation (includes drivers). Restart your PC after installation for changes to take effect.

Step 3

Boot into Download Mode

Since touch isn't working, use the button combination:

  1. Power off the phone completely (hold power button, or remove battery briefly)
  2. Press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power simultaneously
  3. When you see the warning screen, press Volume Up to continue to Download Mode
  4. You'll see a green Android robot with "Downloading..." text

Note: Since touch doesn't work, you can only navigate using buttons. This is fine we don't need touch in Download Mode.

Step 4

Launch Odin and Connect Device

Run Odin3.exe as Administrator on your PC. Connect the phone via USB cable while in Download Mode. Odin should show "Added!!" in the log and one of the COM port boxes will turn blue/cyan, indicating successful detection.

Step 5

Load Firmware Files

Click each button in Odin and select the corresponding file:

  • BL → Select the file starting with BL_
  • AP → Select the file starting with AP_ (largest file, may take a moment to load)
  • CP → Select the file starting with CP_
  • CSC → Select HOME_CSC file (preserves data) or CSC file (full wipe)

Recommendation: Use the regular CSC file (not HOME_CSC) for touch issues to ensure a completely clean install.

Step 6

Configure Odin Options

In Odin's Options tab, ensure these settings:

  • ☑️ Auto Reboot — Checked
  • ☑️ F. Reset Time — Checked
  • ☐ Re-Partition — Leave UNCHECKED (unless specifically instructed)
Step 7

Start Flashing

Double-check all files are loaded correctly, then click Start. The process takes 5-10 minutes. You'll see progress in the log window. Do not disconnect the phone or close Odin during this process.

Step 8

Wait for Completion

When flashing completes successfully, Odin will show PASS! in green and the phone will automatically reboot. First boot takes 5-10 minutes don't force restart. Your touch screen should now be working!

💡 Pro Tip for Technicians

If touch still doesn't work after flashing with CSC (full wipe), try the following before declaring hardware failure: flash the exact same firmware again, but this time tick "Re-Partition" in Odin options. This forces a complete repartition and sometimes fixes stubborn touch issues. Only do this if normal flash didn't work.

⚠️ Warnings & Important Notes

Data Loss Warning

Using the regular CSC file (recommended for touch fix) will perform a complete factory reset. All data will be erased. Since touch isn't working, you likely can't backup from the phone directly. If you have Samsung Cloud backup enabled or can access via Smart Switch with USB, try backing up first.

Bootloader/Binary Version

Samsung prevents downgrading bootloader versions. If your phone currently has a higher binary version (e.g., U3) than this firmware (U2), you may get errors. Check current binary in Download Mode it's shown on the screen. Contact us if you need help finding matching firmware for your binary.

Knox Warranty

Odin flashing is a standard procedure and doesn't trip Knox warranty. However, if you've previously rooted or installed custom ROM (Knox counter 0x1), warranty is already void. This stock firmware won't reset the Knox counter.

Model Verification is Critical

Triple-check you have SM-G615F, not G615FU, G610F, or similar. Even using similar-looking model firmware can cause hard brick or permanent damage. The model is printed on the phone's sticker and shown in Download Mode display.

Hardware vs Software Touch Issue

If the LCD has physical damage (cracks, black spots, water damage indicators), the touch failure is likely hardware-related. This firmware fixes software/driver issues only. For hardware damage, the display assembly needs replacement.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Encountering problems? Here are solutions to the most common scenarios:

Odin Shows "FAIL!" During Flash

Cause: Driver issue, corrupted firmware file, cable problem, or binary mismatch.

Solution: Try different USB cable and port (USB 2.0 preferred). Re-download firmware and extract fresh. Check if binary version matches using Download Mode screen. Run Odin as Administrator. Disable antivirus temporarily.

Device Not Detected by Odin

Cause: Missing or incorrect Samsung USB drivers.

Solution: Uninstall existing Samsung drivers, restart PC, reinstall fresh drivers. Try installing Samsung Smart Switch (includes drivers). Use Device Manager to manually update driver for any unknown Samsung devices.

Stuck on Samsung Logo After Flash

Cause: Firmware taking time to configure, or incomplete flash.

Solution: Wait 15 minutes first boot is slow. If still stuck, perform factory reset: boot to Recovery Mode (Volume Up + Home + Power), use volume buttons to navigate to "Wipe data/factory reset", confirm with Power button. If no recovery, re-flash with Re-Partition option enabled.

Touch Still Not Working After Flash

Cause: Hardware failure, incorrect firmware, or persistent software issue.

Solution: Re-flash with Re-Partition option checked. Try an older firmware build. If still failing, the touch digitizer or flex cable is likely damaged hardware repair needed. Test with a known-good display if available.

"SW REV CHECK FAIL" Error in Odin

Cause: Trying to flash firmware with lower binary than currently installed.

Solution: Samsung blocks bootloader downgrade. You need firmware matching your current or higher binary version. Check your binary in Download Mode (e.g., U1, U2, U3) and find corresponding firmware.

FRP Lock After Flash

Cause: Google account was previously linked; FRP survived firmware flash.

Solution: You need the original Google account credentials. Without them, use FRP bypass methods from our FRP unlock guide or our FRP removal service.

No Service / IMEI Issues After Flash

Cause: EFS partition corruption or modem firmware mismatch.

Solution: First, ensure the CP (modem) file was flashed correctly. If IMEI shows null (*#06#), EFS repair is needed using tools like DFT Pro. See our IMEI repair guide.

Can't Enter Download Mode

Cause: Damaged buttons, depleted battery, or hardware failure.

Solution: Charge for 30+ minutes even if no indicator shows. Try the button combination multiple times. If battery is removable, remove it, hold power for 30 seconds, reinsert and try immediately. For stuck devices, professional tools with test point or chip-off methods may be needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my J7 MAX touch stop working after update?

Samsung's OTA updates include touch panel firmware that's calibrated for specific LCD hardware revisions. If your phone has a different panel revision (common with repairs or manufacturing batches), the new touch firmware may not be compatible. The update basically overwrites working touch drivers with incompatible ones, leaving you with a phone that displays fine but won't respond to touch.

Will this fix work if I have an aftermarket replacement LCD?

Yes, in many cases. This firmware has broader touch panel compatibility than some other builds. However, extremely cheap replacement LCDs sometimes have non-standard touch controllers that no firmware fully supports. If flashing doesn't help and you have an aftermarket screen, try a different quality LCD assembly. Original Samsung panels work with any compatible firmware.

Can I flash this on Samsung J7 Prime (G610F)?

Absolutely not. G610F (J7 Prime) and G615F (J7 MAX) are completely different devices with different chipsets (Exynos vs MediaTek), different hardware, and incompatible firmware. Flashing the wrong model firmware can hard brick your device. Always verify your exact model number before flashing any firmware.

Will I lose all my data?

If you use the HOME_CSC file, data should be preserved. However, since we're fixing touch issues, I recommend using the regular CSC file for a clean install this does erase all data. Since touch isn't working, you can try backing up via Samsung Smart Switch with USB connection, or your Samsung Cloud backup if enabled. After flashing, you'll go through initial setup like a new phone.

How do I know if the touch problem is hardware or software?

Key indicators of SOFTWARE issue: touch stopped immediately after update, phone has no physical damage, display looks perfect. Key indicators of HARDWARE issue: gradual touch degradation over time, visible cracks or damage, water exposure, touch works in some areas but not others in a consistent pattern, phone was dropped recently. If software-related, this firmware fix will help. If hardware, you need display replacement.

What if touch doesn't work in Download Mode either?

That's actually fine Download Mode doesn't need touch at all. You navigate Download Mode using hardware buttons only (Volume keys and Power). As long as you can enter Download Mode and your PC detects the phone in Odin, you can flash the firmware. Touch functionality will be tested after the phone boots into Android normally.

Can I update the phone after using this touch fix firmware?

You can, but be cautious. The same update that broke touch originally might be offered again via OTA. If you update and touch breaks again, you can re-flash this fix. Some users prefer to disable auto-update (Settings → Software Update → Auto download over Wi-Fi → Off) to prevent the problematic update from installing automatically. The phone works perfectly without the newer update.
